Bermuda Grass Spring Wakeup Part 1: Scarify (S2E3)

It’s time for a Bermuda Grass spring wakeup! I like to wait until I see a nice green haze on the lawn that tells me the lawn is starting to wakeup.

Scarify

You may be wondering why I chose to scarify before reel mowing the lawn lower. Well, the answer is easy. Over the Winter my lawn has accumulated quite a bit of debris. Everything from sticks and straw to pinecones and acorns. My rotary mower was able to collect the large items like twigs and pinecones, but the small that has fallen below the canopy was still there. That is where my scarify cartridge comes to play!

I do two passes with my scarify cartridge. The first pass is on .5 setting and the second pass is on the “S” setting. I filled my little lawn wagon to overflow capacity twice! I was able to recycle all of my clippings by adding them to my compost pile.
